Privacy Policy

Steady (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a sobriety support application. We take your privacy seriously — especially given the deeply personal nature of what you share with us. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we protect it.

What We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address, a display name you choose, and — if you're on the recovery track — your sobriety start date. We also store your daily check-in responses, any messages you send to the AI companion, and personal milestones you create. If you subscribe to a premium plan, our payment processor Stripe collects your payment information — we never see or store your credit card number.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used to power the app's features: showing your sobriety clock, generating daily check-in prompts, and enabling the AI companion to respond to you. For premium users, your check-in history and companion conversations are used to generate weekly insight reports and personalized morning messages. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Ever.

AI Companion & Your Conversations

Your conversations with the Steady companion are processed by Anthropic's Claude AI. Messages are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic's API usage policy states that they do not use API inputs or outputs to train their models. For premium users, your conversation history is stored in our database so the companion can remember previous conversations. Free users' conversations are not stored — each session starts fresh.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a Supabase-hosted PostgreSQL database with row-level security enabled, meaning each user can only access their own data. All connections are encrypted via HTTPS. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth with encrypted password storage. While we implement reasonable security measures, no system is 100% secure, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

Family Connection Feature

If you use the Family Connection feature, you can choose to share your sobriety day count and achieved milestones with a linked family member. This is entirely opt-in — you generate a connection code and decide whether to share it. Your check-in responses, companion conversations, and any other personal data are never shared with linked family members.

Payments

Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe, you are redirected to Stripe's secure checkout page. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status in our database, but we never have access to your full credit card number. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of your payment information.

Cookies

We use essential cookies only — specifically for authentication (keeping you logged in). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party analytics tools.

Your Rights

You can request a copy of all data we hold about you, or ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time. To make either request, email us at the address below. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

Steady is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of Steady after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
